Special Awards Related to Volunteerism
President's Student Service Challenge
The President's Student Service Challenge consists of two programs: the President's
Student Service Scholarships and the President's Student Service Awards. Two
students from every high school in the nation are eligible to receive a $1,000
scholarship for outstanding community service through the President's Student
Service Scholarship Program. Students from kindergarten through college may
receive recognition via the President's Student Service Award for the completion

The Caring Institute National Pay It Forward Award
Award nominees must be in the 12th grade or below and must exhibit exceptional dedication to public service. The recipient must demonstrate an extended commitment to the project they are involved in or to the service they provide, and should impact the community he serves in a positive way. The winner receives a $2,000 scholarship and will be recognized at the National Caring Award Ceremony.

The Congressional Award
The U.S. Congress has a medal for young people ages 14 to 23. To earn the Congressional
Award, young people set and achieve goals for volunteer public service, personal

The Howard R. Swearer Student Humanitarian Award
Sponsored by Campus Compact, an organization founded to promote the incorporation
of service into academia, this award is presented to five or six students from
campus chapters throughout the country. Member campus presidents nominate one
student who is committed to both service and academics. Recipients receive an

This award is open to AmeriCorps members. It recognizes exemplary service in
one of five AmeriCorps objectives: Getting Things Done, Leadership, Building

The Jefferson Awards
Sponsored by the American Institute for Public Service, the Jefferson Awards
are presented at both the local and national levels. Local recipients serve
their communities selflessly and without reward, while

Wyeth GOAL! (Go On And Live!) Awards
honor those exceptional volunteers who have overcome depression and gone on to achieve a personal potential previously unknown to them. Wyeth and the Points of Light Foundation are partners in supporting the GOAL! Awards program.

Order of Saint Joan D'Arc

Shield of Sparta Heroine of the Infantry
